He was found at the foot of the ladder he was working on, in desperate conditions, holding a riveter, a pliers tool used to weld metal sheets together with special nails.
The worker, 64, was at work inside Pavilion 1 of the Rho Pero Fair, where the Salone del Mobile will open on Tuesday.
The man was standing on the ladder about three meters high. Shortly after 2.30 pm he lost his balance and fell to the ground, hitting the floor with his face.
To notice the accident and the worker on the ground was a security officer who immediately gave the alarm.
To the 118 rescuers his conditions immediately appeared very serious: the victim was unconscious, in circulatory arrest, and the transport to the Sacco hospital was of no use.
Transferred to code red, he died while attempts were made to revive him.
The police from the Rho police station, the technicians of the Health Protection Agency of the Region, and the investigators of the task force of the prosecutor’s office, specialists in investigating accidents in the workplace, intervened on the spot.
Prosecutor Alessandro Gobbis, coordinated by the adjunct Tiziana Siciliano, opened a file to ascertain the causes of the tragedy.
Only the autopsy will be able to clarify whether the worker fell due to an illness that made him lose his balance or whether the death was caused by the violent impact with the ground.
In fact, at the time of the accident there were no colleagues or witnesses who could help investigators to understand more about the causes of the accident.
