Harvey Weinstein, the 70-year-old former film producer sentenced in the United States to 23 years for sexual assault and abuse of women, has now also been indicted by the British judiciary for a sexual assault in London in August 1996.
“The charges were cleared against Weinstein, following the review of the allegations collected by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” said prosecutor Rosemary Ainslie.
Thus a new proceeding is added against the former very powerful founder of Miramax, accused for the first time of assaults and sexual violence in an investigation by The New Yorker which started the “me too” movement, which, after the conviction in New York, recently confirmed on appeal, she is now on trial in Los Angeles, where she must answer the charges of ten women.
The news comes the day after that of the lawsuit against the manufacturer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (today Stellantis) with which the former manufacturer overturned in 2019 while trying to avoid a deer.
The news, reported by Reuters, also hit for the amount of the church amount by way of damages: 5 million dollars. The incident, which occurred in August three years ago in Bedford, New York State (about 60 km north of Manhattan), left him “seriously injured and paralyzed”, with “continuous and significant pain and suffering”, as well as what his lawyer called “severe spinal and back injuries.”
According to the complaint filed with the New York State court in Manhattan, Weinstein was wearing a seat belt when the brakes failed to respond and the vehicle, in an attempt to slow down as it approached the deer, capsized.
Stellantis has not made any statements for now.
