The president of the Region, as well as extraordinary commissioner, Eugenio Giani, summoned us to Florence together with Snam and the other institutional subjects involved to talk about the regasification plant. It would have been appropriate for the commissioner to have come to Piombino to meet the institutions and citizens or to have participated in one of the many public meetings on the subject, convened by the Municipality or by the Committees, to listen to their voice. This was not the case and now he summons us to Florence: we will be present at that meeting because we cannot talk about the future of a city without representing the opinion of all those who live there and who are part of its social and economic fabric. .

We will be present and we will reiterate the opposite position motivating it and expressing once again all the arguments for which we are convinced that a regasifier in our port is an economic, social, environmental and tourist damage for the future of Piombino. We expect this appointment to be an opportunity for dialogue and evaluation that has been lacking so far: before nominating Piombino, it would have been appropriate to carefully study the consequences of the project and listen to the opinion of the city. If this were not the case, the Municipality will be prepared to continue the battle: we have contacted technicians in the sector to obtain a legal and environmental opinion so as to have the necessary tools to counter the project in the appropriate places.

Whatever the mayor of Campiglia Marittima, Alberta Ticciati, says, our no to the regasification plant is not a “political pickpocket”: this administration – perhaps it is not yet clear to it – acts for the good of the city and not following the dictates of a party. If the critical issues unraveled in these weeks of meetings with citizens are still not enough for Mayor Ticciati and the Democratic Party to openly and clearly take sides against the project, I don’t know what else can convince them to finally take the side of the citizens.
