An appeal was released through a press release by the acting mayor of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria Carmelo Versace. There are hours of apprehension in the city for what will be the future of Reggina. The news leaking from Milan are different and often conflicting. The negotiation that until a few days ago seemed to have taken off in the last few hours has undergone a sudden halt. The certainty is that time passes and within the day June 22 you must submit the application for registration for the next Serie B championship.
The mayor’s note
The Reggina supporters are experiencing hours of apprehension and, in the capacity of acting Metropolitan Mayor, I do not intend to escape the role of responsibility and guarantee that derives from it.
Nobody overlooks the absolute importance on the social level that our football team has always held for a vast territory that goes from Monasterace to Rosarno and which is populated by almost 600,000 amaranth fans.
In thanking the lawyer Perna – with whom we have established a climate of fruitful collaboration, in full respect of the respective institutional prerogatives – I intend, today to publicly appeal to the sensitivity of the parties who are managing the negotiation relating to the sale and rescue of Reggina 1914 .
Reggina is too precious an asset to calmly accept to see it vanish and I am sure that he is aware of this also is dedicating time to the tables and is thinking of investing personal resources.
My appeal is heartfelt but not as a single fan and fan.
I feel the moral obligation to invite the potential buyer to a further emotional and ethical thrust that also goes beyond the strictly legitimate business evaluations; even more so if it were a Calabrian entrepreneur, he knows perfectly well how much our land absolutely needs meeting points and Reggina is one of the very few that still fully exercises this role today.
For my part and the local authorities, I guarantee total availability to collaborate with the club to find together development paths and growth paths that the entire community can benefit from, starting from a modern and efficient vision of sports facilities. We are ready to sit down at any table to build together a future in which the team is increasingly connected to the territory, as has always happened every time that Reggina’s fate has smiled on its people; history proves it. From the day after the positive closure of the sale negotiation, I personally guarantee full availability for a broad collaboration.
Today, however, I cannot exempt myself from this appeal: do not let Reggina die, the people of Reggio have always repaid with enthusiasm those who bet on her and her passions.
