The controversy rages today, June 5 (the day after the Cremona Pride) after it was paraded during the procession a life-size doll disguised as a Madonna with bare breasts.
A representation – widely considered blasphemous and, almost immediately, contested on social media; controversy directed above all to the mayor, Gianluca Galimberti, for the patronage he granted to the event.
“It is not so, with this squalid and disrespectful way of the Christian faith, that the rights are claimed” protested several exponents of the Local right, from the Lega to Forza Italia to Fratelli d’Italia. And it also came as a surprise to everyone, given the confidentiality of the person, the harsh criticism of Giovanni Arvedi, well-known entrepreneur of steel (the steel mills of Cremona and Terni are his), patron of the Cremonese just promoted to Serie A and patron (in the city he made the Violin Museum)
At the scene and subsequent images of the “Virgin Mary” carried on a canopy with her breasts uncovered, the entrepreneur commented: “These symbols have nothing to do with the legitimate protection of rights and the fight against homophony and discrimination. . They are out of tune images because they offend the sensitivity of others ”, expressing“ amazement and regret ”at the fact that no authority has intervened.
There is no lack of those who write and “protest” on social media but from his facebook profile the mayor responds to the criticisms and relaunches his defense of the event by writing a post:
“Mayor, I also have gay friends but the pride in Cremona: was there really a need? “I had never been to a pride before today and I am happy that in Cremona, as in other cities, it has been done. And it has been done like this, with the intelligence and the ability to build opportunities for thought and synergies. This event also lights up a beacon in our city on discrimination that still exists, gives the opportunity to express oneself without attacking, allows us to reaffirm that the equal dignity of all citizens without distinction of sex is really needed, as also stated in our Constitution. It is necessary to build, yes also in Cremona, a democracy that is inclusive and welcoming of diversity. Because fear and hatred of diversity always leads to fear and hatred of all diversity. Certainly, some citizens in a civilized way know that they do not share some ideas that may emerge from this demonstration. And I too have never hidden my perplexities on some issues and, with respect to complex issues, I always feel the need to deepen. Precisely for this reason the comparison is important and indeed indispensable, so that the fear of different positions does not prevail, which then always leads to closures and clashes. Cremona pride, this Cremona pride, is an opportunity to do it. So the answer is yes. It was really needed“!
